Online Baccarat UK: The Best Baccarat Sites, the Real Odds and the Bets to Skip

Baccarat is a game of three bets and no decisions after the first. Two of those bets are among the cheapest in the casino; the third costs more than most slots. Every casino below holds a full UK Gambling Commission licence.

The banker bet carries a 1.06% house edge, the player bet 1.24%, the tie 14.36%. This page shows where to play, what each version of the game costs, and which side bets to leave alone.

Every casino here holds a UKGC licence, checked on the public register; game counts, returns and stake limits are the figures each operator publishes.

The Best UK Casinos for Online Baccarat

10 of our fifteen ranked casinos publish a software baccarat range; the others carry live tables only, or do not say, and are left out here.

The columns are the figures each operator publishes: how many software baccarat games it carries and their return, its live baccarat tables, the stake limits and the minimum deposit.

We are paid through affiliate links, and that is worth stating plainly. If you open an account after following a link from this page, the operator may pay us a commission. You pay nothing for it and the offer stays the same.

The order of this table is our rating of the whole casino, with the table-game range weighed on top; no operator can pay to move up it.

How a Hand of Online Baccarat Works

Punto banco, the version every UK lobby carries, is dealt to fixed rules. You choose a side before the cards come out, and nothing you do afterwards changes the hand.

  1. Place One Bet

Banker, player or tie, plus any side bets the table offers. You are not playing either hand; you are betting on which one finishes closer to nine.

  2. Two Cards Each

Player and banker each receive two cards. Tens and court cards count zero, aces one, the rest face value. Only the last digit of the total counts, so 7 and 8 make 5.

  3. A Natural Ends It

A two-card total of 8 or 9 on either side is a natural, and the hand stops there. Otherwise the drawing rules take over.

  4. The Third-Card Rules

The player hand draws on 0 to 5 and stands on 6 or 7. The banker’s draw depends on its own total and the player’s third card. The software or the dealer applies it; you never choose.

  5. Paid at the Table’s Rate

Player pays even money. Banker pays even money less a 5% commission. Tie pays 8 to 1 at most tables, and banker and player stakes are returned when it lands.

The full drawing table, with every banker case, is in our guide to how baccarat is played.

The Three Bets and What Each Costs

Eight decks, standard rules, the commission on banker wins taken at 5%. These are long-run figures; any single evening can land a long way from them.

Bet Pays House edge Return Verdict
Banker 1 to 1, less 5% 1.06% 98.94% The cheapest bet in the game
Player 1 to 1 1.24% 98.76% A close second, with no commission
Tie at 8 to 1 8 to 1 14.36% 85.64% Dearer than most slots
Tie at 9 to 1 9 to 1 4.84% 95.16% Better, still worse than either side
Player or Banker Pair 11 to 1 10.36% 89.64% A side bet to skip
Dragon Bonus on player Up to 30 to 1 2.65% 97.35% The least costly side bet
Eight decks and 5% commission on banker wins. A tie returns banker and player stakes, and the edges above count it that way.

Why Banker Is the Bet, Even With the Commission

Banker Wins More Often

The drawing rules favour the banker hand: it wins about 45.9% of hands to the player’s 44.6%, with ties the other 9.5%. The commission exists to take most of that advantage back.

45.9% against 44.6%

The Commission Leaves a Gap

Even after 5% off every banker win, the edge is 1.06% against 1.24% on player. Over a thousand £10 bets, that is about £18 of difference.

1.06% against 1.24%

The Tie Is the Trap

It lands about one hand in ten and pays 8 to 1. Fair odds would be about 9.5 to 1, and the gap is the 14.36% the casino keeps.

One hand in ten

Patterns Mean Nothing

Scoreboards, roads and streak trackers record past hands. The next hand is dealt to the same rules, and the history does not change its odds in any way you can use.

No memory

Software, Live and the Other Versions

UK lobbies carry two kinds of baccarat: software tables dealt by a random number generator, and live tables streamed from a studio. The rules are the same; the pace, the limits and the side bets differ.

Version What changes Best main-bet return
Punto banco, software A shuffled virtual shoe and a hand every few seconds 98.94%
Live baccarat A real dealer and shoe on camera, about a hand a minute 98.94%
Speed baccarat Live, with cards dealt face up and a round in about 27 seconds 98.94%
No Commission Banker paid even money, except a winning 6, which pays half 98.54%
Lightning Baccarat Random card multipliers, paid for by a fee on every bet Up to 98.76%
Dragon Tiger One card each, highest card wins 96.27%
Best main-bet return on each version with standard rules, as the game studios publish them.

Faster tables cost more per hour at the same stake, because the edge is charged on every hand. The live tables, with the studios and the stakes at each casino, are compared on our live baccarat page.

What an Evening of Baccarat Costs

The house edge is a price per bet, so the cost of an evening depends on how many hands you play. Software tables deal far faster than live ones.

At £10 a hand on banker, a live table at about 60 hands an hour costs around £6 an hour on average. A software table at 200 hands an hour costs about £21.

Put the same £10 on the tie and the hour costs about £86 live and £287 on software. The bet you choose matters more than the table you choose.

What to Take From That

  • Bet banker, or player if you would rather not pay commission. The gap between them is under a fifth of a percentage point.
  • Leave the tie alone. At 8 to 1 it costs more than thirteen times as much as banker.
  • Skip the side bets. The pairs and bonus bets carry edges from 2.65% to over 10%.
  • Slow down. The software table’s speed is its cost; a live table at the same stake costs less per hour.
  • Check the bonus terms. Baccarat is weighted low or excluded on most UK welcome offers. Play it with your own deposit.

Choosing Where to Play Baccarat

  1. Find the Commission and the Tie Price

Open the game’s help page before the first bet. Banker should pay 0.95 to 1, and the tie 8 or 9 to 1. A 9 to 1 tie is better; neither is a good bet.

  2. Match the Limits to Your Stake

Our table shows the minimum and maximum bet each casino publishes for software baccarat. Pick a table where your stake sits well inside both.

  3. Choose the Pace

Software is quick and private; live is slower, so it costs less per hour at the same stake. Decide which before you sit down.

  4. Set the Deposit Limit First

Set a deposit limit at the casino before the game opens, not after a run of hands. It is easier to keep a limit than to set one halfway through.

  5. Leave the Offer Out of It

Baccarat usually counts little or nothing towards bonus wagering. Play it with cash, and use an offer on the games it was written for.

Baccarat Terms, in Plain English

Punto banco
The standard casino version of baccarat, dealt to fixed rules with no player decisions after the bet. Every UK lobby carries it.
Banker
One of the two hands, and the bet on it. Wins slightly more often than player, which is why its wins carry a 5% commission.
Player
The other hand, and the bet on it. Paid at even money with no commission. It has nothing to do with you personally.
Tie
A bet that both hands finish level. Pays 8 or 9 to 1, lands about one hand in ten, and carries the biggest edge on the table.
Commission
The 5% taken from banker wins. On a £10 winning bet you receive £9.50 profit.
Natural
A two-card total of 8 or 9. It ends the hand at once, and no third card is drawn.
Third-card rule
The fixed table deciding whether each hand draws again. Applied automatically; you never make the choice.
Shoe
The box the cards are dealt from, usually holding eight decks. Software tables use a virtual one, reshuffled by the random number generator.
Side bet
An extra bet on something other than the main result, such as a pair. Higher payouts, and higher edges than banker or player.
Game weighting
How much a game counts towards clearing a bonus. Baccarat is often weighted at 0% to 10%, or excluded altogether.

Where to Go Next

In Short

What to Take Away

  • Online baccarat is punto banco: you bet on banker, player or tie, and the cards are dealt to fixed rules.
  • Banker is the cheapest bet at 1.06% after commission; player costs 1.24%; the tie at 8 to 1 costs 14.36%.
  • Side bets carry edges from 2.65% to over 10%. Leave them alone, along with the tie.
  • Software tables deal far faster than live ones, so they cost more per hour at the same stake.
  • Baccarat counts little or nothing towards most UK bonuses. Play it with your own deposit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is online baccarat legal in the UK?
Yes, at any casino licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, and only for players aged 18 or over. Every casino in our baccarat table holds that licence, and each licence can be checked on the Commission’s public register.
What is the best bet in baccarat?
Banker. After the 5% commission it carries a house edge of 1.06%, against 1.24% on player. The tie, at 8 to 1, carries 14.36%, which makes it one of the most expensive bets in the casino.
Is online baccarat fair?
At a UK-licensed casino, software baccarat is dealt by a random number generator that must be tested by an approved test house, and live baccarat is dealt from a real shoe on camera. The house edge is built into the payouts, not the deal.
What is the difference between online and live baccarat?
The rules and the main-bet odds are the same. Software tables are dealt by a random number generator, a hand every few seconds; live tables use a real dealer and shoe, at about a hand a minute, which makes them cheaper per hour at the same stake.
Is there a strategy for baccarat?
No staking system changes the house edge, and there are no decisions to make once the bet is placed. The only choice that changes the price is which bet you make: banker is the lowest, player close behind, and the tie and side bets far higher.
Does baccarat count towards casino bonuses?
Usually very little. Most UK welcome offers weight baccarat at 0% to 10% towards wagering, or exclude it. Check the terms of the specific offer, and play baccarat with your own deposit if it is excluded.
