topcasinos.org.uk (“we”, “us”, or the “Company”) provides a service, the main focus of which is gathering, comparing, evaluating and structuring information about online casinos licensed in Great Britain and the products they offer. This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) should be read together with our Terms and Conditions. All definitions herein have the meaning assigned to them there. It governs our privacy practices and applies to everyone who accesses our website, and it sets out what information we collect, how and why we collect it, how we use it and when we may share it.
Before that, the basis on which we process data:
- if you use our services, we process your data in order to provide you with the service;
- you may provide personal information through direct interaction, for example by filling in the form on our contact page;
- where we have a legitimate interest in processing data, such as recognising you when you access our website;
- where you give us your consent, or where you require us to process it.
We want you to be able to decide freely whether to use our service or give us your information, so please read this policy and base your decision on it. If you have any questions about it, contact us through our contact page.
Collected Data Types and Purpose of Use
We may collect two types of data:
- Non-personal data: information gathered through your use of the website that cannot identify you or reveal any of your personal details. It tells us only how visitors as a group use the site.
- Personal data: individually identifiable information that identifies you, or that could identify you with reasonable effort.
If we ever combine personal data with non-personal data, the combined data is treated as personal data in its entirety.
| Type of collected data | How we use it |
|---|---|
| Non-personal technical data available through your use of the website: the browser used, the operating system, the device, the date and time you access the site, your navigation and actions on it, language preference and location at country level. | Only to provide and improve the site and to enable it to operate. |
| If you contact us through the form on our contact page or by email, you will be asked for certain personal information, such as your name and email address. | Only to answer your question or provide the support you asked for. |
| Your Internet Protocol (IP) address. Under applicable UK and EU data protection law an IP address is personal data, and we treat it as such. | To pursue our legitimate interests: to maintain, protect and manage the website; to improve it and your experience of it; to compile statistics about traffic and how visitors interact with it; to audit our relationships with third parties, calculate amounts due and detect fraud; and to resolve security or technical problems. |
How We Collect the Data
- Automatically, mostly through cookies and similar technologies, when you access the website; or
- voluntarily, for example when you use our contact form, send us an email, or type a question into the site assistant. Wherever it is technically possible and required by data protection law, we ask for your consent before collecting personal data and always give you the option to opt out.
Cookies
We use cookies, as does almost every website. Cookies are small text files that a site stores on your device while you are viewing it. They are not viruses. They make moving between pages more efficient, remember your preferences and help us improve the site. For general information about cookies, see allaboutcookies.org.
There are three categories:
- Essential, functionality, operation and security cookies. These are needed for the site to work and to keep it secure: for example, the cookie that records your choice on our cookie notice so you are not asked again. They cannot be switched off without breaking parts of the site.
- Analytics, measurement and performance cookies. These would tell us how visitors use the site, for example how many people read a particular review. We do not set any today. If we add them, they will only be set if you accept them.
- Targeting and advertising cookies. These follow you across the internet to show you adverts based on what you have looked at. We do not use them.
You can accept or reject all non-essential cookies using the notice that appears on your first visit; selecting “Reject Non-Essential” means nothing beyond the essential cookies above is set. The tools below run on this website:
| Tool | What it does | More information |
|---|---|---|
| Captcha by BestWebSoft | Protects our contact form from automated abuse. Processes your IP address. | bestwebsoft.com/products/ |
| Contact Form by BestWebSoft | Runs the form on our contact page and sends its contents to our editorial inbox. | bestwebsoft.com/products/ |
| Yoast SEO | On-page search optimisation and XML sitemaps. Collects no visitor data. | yoast.com/privacy-policy/ |
| XML Sitemap Generator for Google | Generates the sitemap search engines use to find our pages. Collects no visitor data. | wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/ |
| WP-Optimize | Caches pages and compresses images so the site loads faster. Collects no visitor data. | wordpress.org/plugins/wp-optimize/ |
| In-house editorial tools | The comparison tables, offer data and page tooling on this site are built and hosted by us. They send nothing to third parties. | Not applicable |
We do not currently run a third-party analytics or advertising service on this website. If that changes, this table and the categories above will be updated before the tool goes live.
Most browsers let you erase cookies, block them or warn you before one is stored; follow the instructions in your device or browser settings. If you block or erase cookies, some parts of the site may not work as expected. See also “Your right to opt out” below.
Links to Third Parties
This website contains links to third-party websites, including the operators we review. Those sites have their own terms and their own privacy policies, and we advise you to read them before using them. We have no influence over the information on them and are not responsible for its accuracy, which rests with their owners.
The Site Assistant
The chat window on this site is not a person and not an artificial intelligence. It matches your question against answers our editorial team has written in advance and shows you the one that fits. Nothing you type is sent to a third party, and no answer is generated from what you say.
What we store. We keep the text of the question, the topic it was matched to, the page you asked it from, whether we had an answer, and the date. We also keep a short random code that links the questions asked in one browser tab together, so a conversation reads as a conversation. That code is generated in your browser, is not linked to you, and is discarded when you close the tab.
What we do not store. We do not record your IP address, your browser details, or any account or identifier alongside what you typed. There is no account to sign into and we do not attempt to work out who you are.
Two exceptions, in your favour. If the assistant recognises that you are asking for help with gambling harm, or that you are in distress, the words you used are not stored; we record only that the question was asked, so we know the help is being used. The same applies if you tell the assistant your name: we do not want it and we do not keep it.
Why. We read the questions we could not answer and write answers for them. That is the only purpose. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving the information on this site, and the small amount of data involved is why we consider that interest proportionate.
Please do not type personal details into the chat. It is not a secure channel and it is not the place to send your name, address, account numbers or payment details. Use the contact form instead.
A copy of your conversation is also held in your own browser, so it survives a page refresh. It is cleared when you close the tab, or immediately if you press Clear in the chat window.
Sharing Personal and Non-Personal Data with Third Parties
We will not share your personal data with any third party except in these cases:
- With your explicit consent: note that once we share information with a third party, that information becomes subject to that party’s privacy policy;
- Policy enforcement: only as far as needed to enforce our policies or agreements and to establish or exercise our rights, including defending against legal claims and investigating suspected fraud, illegal activity or security problems;
- Third-party rights: to prevent harm to the rights of a third party;
- Legal enforcement: where the information is lawfully requested by an official authority;
- Corporate transaction: to companies under common control where necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or if we sell part or all of our business, merge or consolidate;
- Technical or financial reasons: online identifiers such as an IP address, for operating our business, calculating payments and detecting fraud or technical problems.
We may share non-personal data with our business partners and other third parties in the cases above and for ordinary business purposes.
How Long We Keep Data
We keep the data we collect for as long as we need it to provide our service, for as long as we have a legitimate interest under applicable law, or until you ask us to delete it.
Questions asked through the site assistant are an exception with a fixed limit: they are deleted automatically 180 days after they are asked, whether or not anyone has read them.
Your Rights over Your Personal Data
You have the right to know what information we hold about you and, in some cases, to have it communicated to you. Within the limits set by law you may also obtain the personal data you gave us in a structured electronic format and require us to transfer it to a third party.
Your principal rights under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 are: the right of access; the right to rectification; the right to erasure; the right to restrict processing; the right to object to processing; the right to data portability; the right to complain to a supervisory authority; and the right to withdraw consent.
To exercise any of these rights, write to us through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may complain to the UK’s supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Your Right to Opt Out
You can opt out of data collection and sharing connected with this website in the following ways:
- choose “Reject Non-Essential” on the cookie notice shown on your first visit;
- use your browser settings to block all cookies, including ours, or to be told when one is being stored. The support pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera explain how;
- opt out of ad-technology trackers generally through the Network Advertising Initiative or the Digital Advertising Alliance;
- or contact us and we will do our best to help.
After you opt out, some features may not work properly.
Data Security
We take care to keep the website secure so that your personal data is safe from unauthorised access or use. Anything you send us through our contact form is stored on our servers and accessed only by authorised staff, in line with the UK GDPR. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, however, so we cannot be held responsible for losses caused by unauthorised acts of others. If you believe your privacy has not been handled in accordance with this policy, or that someone has tried to misuse this website, please tell us through our contact page.
Under-18s
Gambling is strictly forbidden for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly offer our service to, collect data from, or market to under-18s, and we ask that they do not send us personal information. We reserve the right to ask for proof of age at any point. If you believe a child has shared information with us, contact us immediately through our contact page and we will delete it.
Data Transfers
We may collect, store and process your personal data in the United Kingdom, the EEA or other jurisdictions. If you use this website from outside the UK, information you give us may be transferred to and processed in a country other than the one you accessed it from. Wherever you are, we take appropriate measures to ensure your personal data receives an adequate level of protection when it is transferred.
Changes to This Policy
We may change this Privacy Policy without prior notice, so please check this page from time to time; it always holds the current version, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. If you keep using the website after a change is published, you accept the amended policy.
Contacting Us About Your Data
If you have a request about your personal data that this policy does not answer (including a request to remove, delete, update, correct or transfer it), send it to us through our contact page and mark it for the attention of our data protection officer.
