What Tom Is Responsible For
Everything below carries his name. If a rating on one of these pages is wrong, it is his to correct.
Background
Tom has worked in online gambling content since 2014, on both sides of the affiliate relationship: first writing game guides and reviews, later running the editorial side of a comparison site through the UK Gambling Commission’s 2018 changes that made operators responsible for their affiliates’ advertising. That period is the reason this site is built the way it is: he watched how quickly a page ages when the wagering multiple in the copy no longer matches the operator’s terms, and how little a headline rating means when nobody can see what went into it.
He is not a professional gambler and does not present himself as one. His work is reading terms and conditions closely, keeping records of what changed and when, and refusing to round a number up because it makes a table look tidier.
What Happens Before a Rating Changes
A score on this site does not move because an operator asked. This is the sequence.
-
Something Concrete Changes
A new licence status on the UKGC register, a rewritten bonus term, a payment method added or dropped, a withdrawal window the operator has revised in its own help pages. A press release is not a trigger; a change to the published terms is.
-
The Affected Criterion Is Re-Scored on Its Own
Only the criterion that changed is touched. A faster withdrawal window moves payments and payouts; it does not quietly lift the game range score as well.
-
Compliance Sees It Before the Reader Does
Anything touching an offer, a wagering figure or a licence number goes to Helen Marsden first. Any offer above a 10x wagering requirement is referred to her by default.
-
The Page Records the Date
The updated date in the byline moves when the content moves, not on a schedule. A page that says it was checked in a given month was checked in that month.
In His Own Words
“The useful question about a casino is almost never ‘is it good’. It is ‘good at what, and compared to which other one’. That is why every rating here splits into criteria you can open up. If the breakdown does not persuade you, the total should not either.”
Tom Whitfield, Casino Editor
How to Reach Him
If a figure on this site is out of date, or an operator has changed a term we are still quoting the old version of, tell him. Corrections are the fastest route to a better comparison, and they are read by a person, not a form.

A Word on How This Site Is Paid For
TopCasinos.org.uk earns commission when a reader opens an account with an operator after following a link from the site. That arrangement has no effect on where a casino appears in a table or what its rating is, and it costs the reader nothing. The full explanation is on the about page.
